ABOUT

The scholarship honors students who have demonstrated an interest and
commitment to special needs students through their actions and/or their career
interests. A scholarship and an award are presented each year at the PVRS
graduation. See scholarships for past recipients.

Owen Clarke was a senior at PVRS who died suddenly on March 2, 2007. Owen was challenged with Autism and had difficulty communicating and
navigating the social world. He was a lifelong resident of Northfield, attending the Giving Tree preschool, Northfield Elementary School and Pioneer Valley Regional School. Since 7th grade at PVRS he participated on all the track teams, cross country, indoor track and track and field. He was an active member of the
Northfield community participating in recreation programs, his church youth group and volunteering at both the PVRS and town libraries. He loved nature and was most comfortable outdoors, at Perry Pond, hiking Mt Craig, exploring the river and streams and swinging at NES or the West Northfield playground.

Owen was often stressed trying to cope with different environments and
people, things most of us take for granted. But he was sweet and loving and
showed great courage and determination in all he did.

We have felt tremendous support from our community of family, friends,
school personnel and neighbors. You all have helped us to cope with losing our beloved son and brother. Every gesture has been helpful and appreciated.
Thanks to all of you!
